So…I’ve had a bit of writer’s block but I am back.
Hola.
Growing up, one of my favorites stories from the Bible was David and Goliath. Here’s this teenage shepherd boy coming to bring something to his brothers and lo and behold, he finds his people scared of a Philistine…a giant. Fast forward to the fight, David gathers some stones and a slingshot, defeats the giant and cuts off his head. I mean, I can’t make this up.
Seriously, this shouldn’t have happened. Take a look at all the facts here. David was a shepherd boy. He had no armor, refusing to wear the king’s attire. He had stones and a slingshot…STONES AND A SLINGSHOT. I sometimes picture a battle from the movie 300. Can you imagine one of those blood thirsty champions coming at David and all he had was stones and a slingshot. And God.
David slayed because he did not forget his God.
He remembered the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He remembered the God that delivered the Israelites from the oppression of the Egyptians. He remembered the God that brought the Israelites into the promised land. He remember the God that never changed and remained faithful to His people, even when the people weren’t loyal.
If he did it before, he will do it again.
So many times, there’s a giant that comes and stands on the path that God has lead you on. When the giant comes, apparently so does amnesia. I forget the Scriptures. I forget the past victories. I forget my God.
I was at a Bible study hangout with some friends (shoutout to Second Saturdays) and we discussed this very topic. It really hit me in the face that there are so many times that God is the last thought. The same God that presented something that was never before seen like rain or manna is the last thought. The same God that split the red sea is the last thought. The same God that conquered death is the last thought.
A great way to overcome the fear and defeat the giant, is to believe that the God that lives inside of you can do far more than you think. Recount what God has done for you to strengthen your faith to believe what He will do.
David slayed because he wasn’t afraid to defend God.
The Philistine came out for 40 days and taunted the Israelites. He was talking mess about the God of the universe for a whole 40 days and no one did anything.
How many times do people in your circle or at your job disrespect God and you do nothing? Perhaps you have a testimony or good news and your faith is discredited. I understand how difficult it is sometimes. I have been in situations where non-believers or doubting believers have disregarding the power and might of my God and I have stood in silence.
“Where’s your God now?”
There have been times when I felt compelled to pray with a stranger and disobeyed because of fear.
We have a great cloud of witnesses that endured the taunting and God’s Word did not return void.
In life, the giants will come and taunt us. They will be big and bold. They will curse God. If we have amnesia that we serve a God that created the entire universe, then we will be defeated. God wants to show His power through us. But if we are unwilling, His power shrinks to us.
So let this serve as encouragement to us all to slay like David. When we slay, God is glorified. Men will see our actions and give our Father in Heaven the praise He deserves.
So slay honey. *snaps fingers in a z formation*
