Things I Need Every Hour
– God
*completes list*
How many hours do you have in your life?
No, not hours in a day or even a year. How many hours in your life?
In the language of Christian-ese, we often refer to the midnight hour. You know, late in the midnight hour, God’s gonna turn it around. It’s gonna work in your favor. The midnight hour typically symbolizes a moment when you need a breakthrough. A storm is raging. You’re being tested. You don’t see a way out. Will God let you perish? Things don’t look promising, but then God steps in and works it out for your good.
Perhaps you’re spiritually experiencing the waking hour. Alert and productive. The Lord woke you up with a spiritual epiphany and you’re getting right with Him. You’re being a good steward of your time by using the waking hours to study and develop your quiet time.
Maybe you’re at the noon day hour. When the sun is at its highest. The opposite of midnight. Things in life are bright. Your skies are clear. Joy consumes you. Love and kindness flow from you. Everything is right with the world and you’re thankful about it.
How many hours do you have in your life?
You now see that I’m referring to seasons, trials…moments. Each of us have spiritual highs and lows. Good days and bad days. We make right decisions and regret wrong decisions. And what is the constant that you’ll need no matter the day, decision or hour? God.
It’s easy to remember that you need water when you’re extremely thirsty. But what about when you’re not? We have to remember to rely on God in every hour, good or bad. When we desperately need Him and even when we feel like we don’t.
Even though we are being transformed into the image of Christ, we still live in our fleshly bodies. The want to do wrong still exists. When the storms are present, we often doubt God and don’t trust Him. When the sun is shining, we neglect God and boast on ourselves.
And don’t make the mistake of thinking that God needs you…just don’t.
John 15:5 says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. The one who abides in me while I abide in him produces much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”
God is everything we can or ever will need. He is our strength to continue. He is our hope for tomorrow. He is our brighter day. He is our refuge. He is our discernment. He is our conviction. He is our example. He is our truth. He is our power. He is our rescuer. He is our healer. He is our comforter. He is our redeemer. He is alpha. He is omega. He is everything.
And we need Him. God, I need you.
Philippians 4:19-20 And my God will fully supply your every need according to his glorious riches in the Messiah Jesus. Glory belongs to our God and Father forever and ever! Amen.
