So Blessed

blessedI used to consider one of my younger sisters to be very lucky. Growing up, she could find money everywhere…seriously, everywhere. On the street, in the couch, at church, in the store, it did not matter. However, there was no such thing as claiming money from the washing machine in my house. That was always my mom’s money. But I admit, I was envious and thought that it was about time for some luck to come my way. And that’s how I determined by luck; by “good things” randomly happening.

I soon realized that this way of thinking is basically a slap in the face to God. The fact that I would think things are happening by chance is an insult. Referring to myself as lucky completely removes God out of the equation. Funny thing is, there is no equation without God.

So, to say that I am blessed involves some intentionality from God. I am in awe when I think that an all-knowing, all-powerful God who created this earth and knows how many hairs we have on our head would provide blessings for me according to His purpose.  We are endowed with His divine favor. Even when we make the wrong decisions in life, God causes all things to work together for our good, for those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

How are you blessed?

The most important blessing we have is the opportunity to once again commune with God because of Jesus Christ. Nothing could be more intentional than God sending His Son to be the propitiation in order that we may have relationship with Him. Christ overcoming sin was not a random event. He had you in mind.

The next time a person tells you that they are lucky, tell them that you’re blessed. You serve a God that is intentional with His provisions because of His love and grace.
